Dual Monitor and finder issues Mac Mini late 2014

I have a late 2014 Mac Mini 3GHz i7 with 16gig of ram connected to two Acer s271hl monitors. One through HDMI and one through a Apple Thunderbolt to DVI adapter. The "main" monitor is the ThunderBolt and the second is the HDMI. More than not after I wake it from sleep the second monitor thats HDMI will still have the Background picture but everything else is gone. Not just moved to the other screen but gone. I have to force quit the finder to get the monitor to work again. Any suggestions? I am running a dual monitor wallpaper app called MultiScape. Ill quit using it and see if thats it and try switching the monitor cable around.
